Dental Cleaning and Fluoride Treatments

Proper care for your child's teeth and gums is vital to their overall health and their education should start early to ensure they are on the right path. That's why we recommend a patient's first visit with us as early as age 1 and dental cleanings and fluoride treatments for our patients every six months.

Is this your child’s first visit? Learn what you can expect.

At Detail Dental Kids cleanings we apply a special polishing agent with fluoride to remove stain and plaque from the tooth surface using a rotating brush or cup. Heavy deposits of plaque or tartar are also removed using hand instruments by the doctor or dental hygienist.

After the cleaning appointment, we provide a thorough dental exam for cavities, growth and development of the teeth and jaws, and other dental conditions. In addition we will apply a fluoride treatment to strengthen the teeth against dental decay.

Some children, adolescents, or young adults may require additional cleaning appointments or fluoride treatments for special individual oral health needs. At Detail Dental Kids, we evaluate each patient individually to recommend the best routine dental care for his or her unique dental health needs.

Detail Dental Kids may recommend a topical treatment called Silver Diamine Fluoride for your child in effort to further ward off tooth decay. Learn more at the link at right.

At Home Prevention

Brushing after meals helps remove food debris and plaque trapped between your teeth and gums. Don’t forget to include your gums and tongue.  The bacteria that causes bad breath thrive on your tongue. Yuck! Flossing at least once a day helps remove food particles and biofilms between teeth that you can’t reach with your toothbrush. Using an approved mouthwash can help reduce biofilms and remove small pieces of food that brushing and flossing missed. Know your risk. Poor diet and sugary foods can all increase your child’s risk for tooth decay and even periodontal disease. If you want to learn more about preventing periodontal disease, schedule an appointment to discuss it with one of our doctors or hygienists.
